Questions and Answers Regarding ARB Approvals

Q. I am going to repaint my house. Do I need approval from the ARB?

A. If you are going to repaint using the same or very similar colors, then no approval by the ARB is needed. However, if you are going to make a significant change in any color, then approval by the ARB is needed.

Q. My roof was damaged in a storm and I am going to replace the shingles. Do I need approval from the ARB?

A. If the replacement shingles are similar to the original shingles in color and quality, then no approval is needed. However, if the replacement shingles are significantly different from the original shingles in color or quality, then approval by the ARB is needed.

Q. My original wood entry door is very weathered and is in poor condition. I am planning to replace it with a fiberglass door.  Do I need approval from the ARB? 

A. Fiberglass doors are not permitted; requests to use them will not be approved by the ARB.

Q. I am planning to replace a few trees that have died. Do I need approval from the ARB?

A. If you are replacing trees that were part of an approved landscape design, then approval of the ARB is not needed. However, if your landscape design was not previously approved, then approval by the ARB is needed.

Q. My original landscape design was approved. However, I am planning a new landscaping project in my rear yard.  Do I need approval from the ARB?

A. Yes. Any new landscape plan must be approved by the ARB.

Q. I am planning to install a permanent basketball goal on my driveway. Do I need approval from the ARB?

A. Yes. Installation of a permanent basketball goal requires approval from the ARB.

Q. I am planning to install a pool in my rear yard. Do I need approval from the ARB?

A. Yes. Pools must be approved by the ARB.

Q. I have several cars and my garage is full. Can I keep my trash bins at the back end of my driveway?

A. Trash bins must be kept in the garage or out of sight from the street and from neighboring lots.

Q. My landscaping plan was approved but it did not include any flowers in front of the house. I am now planning to plant some flowers in front of the house.  Do I need approval from the ARB?

A. Minor additions to the landscaping plan, such as the planting of flowers, do not require approval from the ARB.

Q. I am planning to install a chain-link fence to enclose my rear yard. Do I need approval from the ARB?

A. All fences must be approved by the ARB. In general, fences are discouraged in order to maintain an open appearance.  Chain-link fences are especially discouraged.
